about

The companion EP to "Striped," this album is a collection of music less structured and exciting. Inspired by ambient music and the randomness of wind chimes, these pieces were all instigated with a patch from a Buchla synthesizer, and proceeded in very different directions. In their own way, these pieces chase down a lot of what I love about working with the Buchla synthesizers. The diversity of timbres and the ability to explore the “stuff of music” in a variety of contexts make working with these instruments a continuous journey of creative sound. The first track, Transition To Gas was started with a software version of the Music Easel.

It is much harder to cite the musical influences on this album than "Striped," where I can point to fairly specific correlations between chosen sounds and influential artists. Artists like Todd Barton, Sarah Belle Reid, Morton Subotnick, Xopher Davidson, Brian Eno, Sun Ra, Joanna Brouk, Anadol, and Matt Ingalls all come to mind not so much for their sonic influence, but rather the permission and liberation to make a highly personal form of music that comes from a desire to explore and experiment.

For the gear curious here's some of the hardware and software used on this album:
- Buchla Easel Command
- Buchla LEM 218
- Buchla 200 reissue modules
- Korg Minilogue
- Arturia Microbrute
- MFB Tanzbar Lite
- Meeblip Geode
- Newfangled Generate
- Madrona Labs Aalto
- Audio Damage Continua
- Arturia Buchla Music Easel V
- Chowdhury DSP BYO
- Audio Damage Enso
- Audio Damage Other Desert Cites
- Softube Spring Reverb
- Cherry Audio Stardust 201
- Newfangled Elevate
- Bitwig Studio
